MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Hey Everyone,
I'm fairly new (joined a couple weeks back), and would like to say that this is my first (ever) venture into a forum... and this one certainly rocks. Big fan, hats off to BH and the rest of the staff!
That being said, I have a lot of those annoying newbie questions that I'd like to ask, like what certain terms mean, forum etiquette, etc... So, I'd like this thread to be a "safe" place for neophytes like me to visit on occasion to ask questions/get answers. It can be a little intimidating around all you "lifers" and sometimes, frankly, you might as well be typing Chinese. So occasionally perhaps the seasoned members/staff could check in here and help us out?
Thanks. I'll kick it off:
1. What's "trolling"?
2. How do we search for topics previously discussed so the staff doesn't have to lock topics so often (ie: is there any way other than scanning the various forums which are very lengthy)?
...who's next?
Chris
AdminEngineer02/3/2012Hi Db, thanks for your questions. I'm also glad you like the forums! It's an ongoing project, not like those free open source forum softwares alot of other sites run off of. This one is 100% custom - which means some features take some time to develop or enhance.
That leads into the answer for your second question, I am currently working on a search topics/news/members function. Haven't had much time these past few days to really dedicate to cranking out the code, but I plan to get most of the requested features live. One of them being a search feature. So don't worry about that yet, we can't get annoyed with you if we haven't even given you an option to search before posting, seems a tad silly. Haha, so post your heart out, its what a forum is for.
As for your first post, Trolling essentially is just causing trouble. Arguments, personal attacks, much like "Flaming". But I rarely use these terms. If you're being a dank I'll PM or email you and tell you you're being a dank and to stop. If they don't stop, they can find another forum to bother.
Hope this helps. Our goal here is to create a fun place for fans of Prometheus to share ideas, thoughts and socialize when on break at work... or during work if that's how you see fit. But bottom line is you don't need to worry about either of those questions, as the search feature is on its way and you don't seem like a "Troll" at all.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Hi, also I'm new here and one of the great things with this forum is that there are no trolls. Well, except once in a couple of perverted idiots made threads on rapes and perversions. On the other hand I invite people of this forum not to confuse trolling with different views, because that everyone has the right to think differently and have their own ideas because that not everyone can think the same way, the detail is to be respectful and empathetic.
Best regards
db
MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Thanks BH! It was Snorkelbottom's idea for me to start the thread so the credit goes to him. Any other newbies have questions?

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Well, the only question that occurs to me is a way to search for more fast repeated threads. Certainly it is very tedious to analyze the thousands that are on the page. Although practically has already posted all just have to wait the second trailer or continue speculating, that is indeed very funny...

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012great site by the way

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012I agree with BugHunter. You won't find many trolls if any on Prometheus-Movie.com, AvPSpectrum.com, AvPPGalaxy.net or aliensvspredator.net. A big site for trolls is definitely IMDB.com. Every now and then I'll post over there and wow the trolls there are pathetic. IMDB.com is bad territory to blog, especially if your trying to avoid those trolls. There's a lot of great sites out there but Prometheus-Movie.com definitely tops its. Like BugHunter said "This is 100% custom". Which I love. The site allows our ideas to roam freely without being squashed by those annoying trolls or moderated harshly by administration. BugHunter has definitely done a FANTASTIC job and I'm happy he took all this time to make these glorious forums that us fans can use on a consistent basis and use freely to our own ability.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Shambhala, I've read and agreed with many of your comments! Perhaps you have some other "forum terms" you're aware of (that I'm not), that you could share?

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012PS. RC8: I found it interesting that Snork's GIF picked-up almost exactly where mine ended. Did you have that happen with any others? Are you still getting requests?

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Hey Db, I'm new to on-line foruming too!!!
I'd like to think that us newbies can raise theories, even if it is a repeat thread!!! some of us have just found this site so have the same questions as everyone else, but a front page headliner with topics already discussed would be a good idea,as I would find it a bit tedious having to trawl through the back catalogue of threads before I felt confident to post!!!
Personally I didn't,I just pitched in.....So Db go for your life and good luck!!!
Gavin
MemberTrilobite02/3/2012I know searching through the threads by hand is tedious, but as soon as BH gets the search feature implemented the forums will be a lot more 'noob' friendly.
some forum trivia for the noobs...
Noob - you lol
Troll - someone who purposefully supplies false information
Flame - Arguing for the sake of arguing, usually resorting to personal attacks
OP - original post, the first post in the thread
/thread - a request to close the thread, usually by ignorants
IMO - In my opinion
IMHO - In my honest opinion
@ - in reply to, usually followed by a forum members name
probaly the most common ones you'll come across
Gavin
MemberTrilobite02/3/2012OH NO...
I forgot one...
Facepalm - given to someone when they say something so unbelievably stupid/thick/dense the only reply is a facepalm.
an example would be someone asking "was there an alien skull in E.T."
Thus in return they get...

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012@Db, Well due to the ongoing requests and problems with hosting the GIF images from postimage.org, we had to change our policy. Anyone who has at least 100 posts or more qualifies for a GIF image. Anyone who would like a GIF image just message me or go to my "GIF" thread and send me a request there. Then when a GIF image is done processing BugHunter uploads the image to the server thus enabling all members to see them. And to answer your questions Db I haven't got many requests at all and I believe that is because the change in our policy limited a lot of members/new members here to just request at random. Our new policy will ensure the fast continuing service of the Prometheus-Movie.com server and will help members here stay active on the forums so that they can receive a GIF of their choosing.
