As far as I remember it, there is no sleeping chamber on the derelict ship in ALIEN.

MemberOvomorph02/1/2012I heard there will be only two Engineers and judging from the pic I see two
chambers.
shambs
MemberOvomorph02/1/2012@Engr101, yes...but they may be emergency landing pods and for some reason is ejected...

MemberOvomorph02/1/2012@lancef, I think there's a third chamber...
reffugee
MemberOvomorph02/2/2012I think there's 4 chambers, the one on the left is open, and 4th is behind the chair. Crazy similarity with Alien sleep chamber Shambhala. Im sure its not just a coincidence. They also look like sarcophagus, you can see them in the star room also.
This site has some good res images with more arrows

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012Sorry for my mistake, but yes @reffugee...are 4 chambers.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012If the SJ's are indeed as advanced as they seem, I doubt they'd need anymore than 1 or 2 crew to fly a ship such as the Derelict one. But I can see what ya mean, a ship that spacious looks like it's built for more than one or two.
The High Priest
MemberOvomorph02/2/2012I think it is implied in Alien that the rest of the crew were turned into the Alien eggs ala Dallas and Brett on board the Nostromo - In fact looking at it there are some beautiful parallels between the SJ's and crew of the nostromo's fates. Also between the Derelict and Nostromo. Turned into Eggs, crew members experience Alien Birth (chestburster) acid burning through the decks. I personally liked the theory that the Space Jockey race was noble and peacful, and unfortunately, through whatever reason encountred the xenomorph, the crew got wiped out, but before termination they managed to put the warning beacon into place. By the time the Nostromo find it, the xenomorph or xenomorphs had long since died - However the crew of the derelict who all met a horrifc fate - lye there - preserved for an eternity - as faceguggers waiting for their next prey....Kane.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012Yes @The High Priest, certainly likely that the crew of the Derelict performed a metamorphosis to become eggs like Dallas.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012IMO, there was only crew member, and it was a delivery/drop ship mission to Earth gone wrong. The cargo...Vials & Vials of Xenomorph Terra-Former Units.
The High Priest
MemberOvomorph02/2/2012@spartacus - I agree that may be the story now. However at the time of making Alien it was the former....

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012in Alien, when kane is lowered down to were the eggs are, the only (living) eggs are protected by the blue boundary layer of light, there looks to be "Dead eggs" in the area before and after of that section, which would mean that the lower portion of the ship was a hatchery or something made the eggs on the ship, or a nest, but over time the life control system that keeps the the eggs moist and alive started to fade out thus leaving that narrow area that kanes discovers, also the sj room in alien, the platform has large tubes that dallas, lambert and kane must step over, that extend from the chair to the edge of the platform, on the promethus sj area, there are capsules, and a flatter floor?, hmmmmm, is it the same craft.....love this form.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorph02/2/2012true dat in the end I will be happy no matter what they reveal though, ya gotta love that the whole time line is alive again...so exciting...

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012Why is everyone so certain that they are sleeping chambers?.....
geek.boy
MemberOvomorph02/2/2012reffugee...... that site is amazing.. thanks for the link.
did anyone else read the leaked info about a space craft called Magellan. that the name appears on a door on one of the set peices.
i think that the main ship is not called, prometheus...it must be megallan...
calling the ship prometheus and sending it to meet the gods is a bit like building a new boat to look at iceburgs and calling it the Titanic....
as Prometheus implies that we will face the wrath of the gods...
so i reckon that promethues is just the title of the film, and not the ship....
has anyone else said this...sorry if they have dont kill me...
i love this site... im beyond excited about the film..... i should be sketching in work but i find myself on here all day!!!

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012hyper sleep?... i thought it would be far more alienesque, far more in keeping with biotech/body-horror themes if the ship grew its pilot who's sole existence from birth to death was the voyage & mission.
it's conscious the whole time , nervous system integrated with the ship; feels pain when the ships trajectory is incorrect or asteroids strike the hull, hunger when running low on fuel etc.
then the real passenger is then born at the destination using the no longer needed pilot as an incubator :)
i'm really disappointed by the suit idea

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012Maybe they had bad burgers laced with ammonia.
McDonald’s and other fast food chains have quietly announced that they will stop selling “Pink Slime” beef – a form of second-grade meat that is treated with a nasty ammonia process to eliminate bacteria

Everything after has "killed"the genre.

MemberOvomorph02/2/2012@ HybridVigor:
They may or may not be sleep chambers. They could just be where the biomechanical suits are kept... or perhaps grown.

That could work really well in a print story, but probably not so well on film. There aren't as many opportunities for dramatic interraction, if your main antagonist is permanently attached to the furniture.
On the other hand, if the SJs could biomechanically merge/unmerge with other forms of their technology at will..........that could still be very creepy, and I'm guessing, that's how it will work.

MemberOvomorph02/3/2012Yes, certainly can be containers of biomechanoids Suits. The hypersleep chambers is just one of the possibilities...
