A batch of rarely seen, unused concept artwork from Alien: Covenant by artist Khang Le was recently discovered and shared in our forums by our very own member Dark Nebula. The artwork depicts a variety of Alien hybrid concepts, David's experiments and environmental designs which didn't make it into the final cut of Alien: Covenant. A lot of this artwork seems to coincide with what many fans (myself included) thought Covenant and its monsters might have looked like. Check it out:

I would have liked to see this in the film. This looks so much creepier and better than what we got.

Damn... This looks as if it was for Alien: Paradise Lost! A lot of very cool stuff here!

If we can confirm these are official then it would appear they was worked on in 2014, i think it would be very interesting if we ever see any of the earlier pre Logan Drafts come to light ;)

I think they match up very closely to what you shared with us back then Dave. Seems like this might have been the artwork your source was telling us about. Almost 4 years later, we finally get to see it!

Can't argue with how good Covenant turned out however these concepts are very interesting and wonderful! I'm not a fan of the Engineer monsters but everything else especially with David looks spot on. Perhaps this could be used in the next movie.

Landscape art is amazing.  It could have added to the movie but what we got was very minimal.  Too bad.

Nelostic also, how exactly do the predators fit into this?

I think this concept art could very likey be used in a film that takes place inbetween prometheous and covenant. there is a whole planet and only having that one small city on an entire planet is ridiculus. over the couse of 10 years I am sure that david would travel to other places on the planet. alos if the engineers in covenant are indead a different spiecies or race like many of us have thorised, then they would have different reactions to the black go as the real engineers witch are most likely somewere else on this planet. these engineers could be the ones in the concept art shown. this would also add some runtime to a script idea to short to make a movie out of. david going to the planet killng engineers and killing shaw.

I'm convinced that the concept artists for Covenant could have undoubtedly written and directed the movie, and it would have been a masterpiece.

Among all of the discourse about the Alien franchise between this site, AVPGalaxy, Mr. H, and Hybrid Network, the Alien public relations team needs to do some serious damage control before the franchise is dead in the foreseeable future. Disney owns it now; they need to step up to the plate and control this mess, and they need to tell Ridley Scott to STFU.

Very interesting indeed & stunning artwork to say the least! I agree with you these do for more with what I thought we'd have seen with respect to David's "experiments" while on the planet. Again, just my take and what I'd hoped that Covenant could have been.

Instead we were given endless scenes of David and Walter discussing Shelley and Byron as well as a whole segments of flute playing with "I'll do the fingering...." being quite possibly the most ridiculous line uttered in recent years serving only to make an even bigger complete joke out of the direction this series for which (and again I stress these are just my thoughts and nothing more), I simply can no longer bare to follow!

This mishmash of torrid crap Sir Ridley seems determined to take this series. I don't understand. PLEASE, SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT'S GOING ON! I'm missing something, I have to be! The very accomplished and esteemed Mr. Scott created this wonderful mythos  - well created on film, to be fair Dan O'Bannon, the original writer and Walter Hill the producer actually wrote and "created" Alien and its subsequent sequels - however, either way I don't understand why he seems to be tearing it all down! Now even saying "...it's not about the 'big chap anymore but about David, and the philosophical implications of creationism...." WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Oh Ridley! Why oh why! I understand you've just turned 80, I understand you're asking those "big questions" of what comes next, BUT this is Science Fiction not the Life & Times of Whatever Higher Power you align yourself with! Seriously, and I apologize to all of you AND the audience with whom I watched Alien: Covenant with for my uncontrollable laughter and giggling when the fully formed Xenomorph pops out of Orhram's(?spelling sorry!) and does the whole "Christ on the Cross" pose! I'm sorry but even if I hadn't already been laughing about the fact that Orhram had just trusted David after telling him he was "...going to blow a hole in your perfect composer...." yet then sticks his face directly over an opening egg on David's say so 2 minutes later made absolutely no sense whatsoever!! And was quite laughable to myself at least.

I'm starting to really believe the Honest Trailer version of this movie that this was not actually a colony mission but simply a new government program to rid earth of idiots. Harsh words I know but COME ON!!!

Somewhere along the way either I or these movies took a left turn at Albuquerque and I am begging someone to explain to me what I've missed! I truly mean this! In the mean time, for some humor if you'd like to check out the "Honest Trailer" I was referring to, I've included the link below. I adore this board/blog and all of you here! I hope I didn't offend anyone with my comments as that was not my intention AT ALL! I have a huge amount of respect for the creators of this forum and everyone involved! You always go above and beyond to show us all sides! Thank you so very much! Lady Anne ^^ö^^

Who knows Chris some of it does seem to add up, some of it a bit different but the Source was ambiguous with what they said so that there was no clear answers but points we have to connect ourselves.   Much like the TWO monsters, they never came and said like..  "we got this one Monster thats like a Xenomorph, but with a elongated head like the Necronom 4 and Ultramorph and David created it"   and then " oh and we got another that has a shorter bulbous head thats transparent and David did not create it"

It was just disclosed as.

Two Monsters, both similar yet different to the Xenomorph.

*One Re-Created by David

*One is like the Necronom 4/Ultramorph

*One is like a fresh the Original Giger Design (but also some Alien 3 concepts)

*One is more pale than the Xenomorphs and Transparent

*One has Dorsal Tubes, other Just Spines

*One has a very elongated head the other a bulbous head

A area the person was a bit confused who passed information had added.

*They think it was mentioned one had a Tail the other did not, but could be the one had a Xenomorph Tail and the other did not meaning a different one.

*They said that one had 6 Digits but the other apparently had just 3 Digits.

So thats how their clues was, and so it was down to us to think ok so what applies to which monster, i guess because this way they are never describing any one Monster, but other clues to other things are described in similar fashion.

As far as the Pathogenic Organism Origin, there are some signs of what they describe in these concepts, including those Worm Thingys, they are pretty much exactly as described to me.

so its a case of who knows...  only when more Concept comes out or the drafts are leaked will we know for sure, but these concepts and those unused Matt Hatton ones do seem to add up to stuff that was said back in February 2015

Impressive, I like the picture of the Xeno that looks like it has a fish inside its head (third from the bottom). The Engineer head that looks like it has a snake coming out of its eye looks awesome. Sure it looks good but I wonder if it would have been a good movie or if it still would have had a lot of the problems that Prometheus has.

This might have been better since Alien Covenant was a robot movie with mostly disappointing characters. I wonder if these are official pictures or some fan made things.

Yes it is strange that they only seemed to have one city at the planet. Wouldn't they have had more than that since I guess that there were more Engineers there than what we saw in the movie.

Barf The Mog:

" ... the concept artists for Covenant could have undoubtedly written and directed the movie, and it would have been a masterpiece... they need to tell Ridley Scott to STFU."

I am not too sure about that, just because you are good with graphics doesn't mean that you are a good writer so these are two different things but I see what you mean. He should have nothing to do with the story. Scott is good with the visuals but it goes to crap when he is trying to affect the story so we get disastrous things like David creating the Xeno which I really hope won't be the thing in the end. David has a big enough role the way it is and that is lame. Yes they should tell him that storytelling isn't his thing so he has got to show some humility. Just because he is good with visuals doesn't mean that he is someone that shall have a hand in everything.

Lady Anne: LOL! Yeah the discussions between David and Walter about Byron and whatever became really slow. I liked to see the differences between these two but it became boring towards the end of the conversation. I do not watch alien movies to see two androids discuss what ever even though it was interesting to see what made them different from each-other.

“This mishmash of torrid crap...”

LMAO! That is a hysterical way to put it, I am laughing at the way you said it but it is true. The direction that this is taking is really boring, it doesn't make me interested in another movie.

You implied that the movie was about the Xeno originally. I think that it was more about people finding something that they didn't understand and weren't prepared for so it was not about the monster really although it was an important part, it is about the themes that is how I look at it.

I am not interested in the David story, leave that to some spin-off but don't make alien about that. David is not the reason why I am watching alien related movies. To me he is just a part of the story, not what it is about or should be about.

Nah you didn't offend me at all, I agree with much of what you wrote (not everything) but I would probably have written my criticism in another way.

I dont usually write but today i will. I liked the look of the artwork, and this is the problem as Alien artwork gives us false hope. The original Alien invoked images of something really alien (unlike most Sci Fi movies) The whole look and feel was other - worldly and disturbing. This is what drew me to the Alien universe and what made me want to see more. It drew me to the surreal art of Giger and Beksinski. It did not drive me to ponder the origins of man. The fact that the space jockey is a humanoid in a suit almost made me cry. The fact that "people of earth" have their paws all over the Alien DNA has just ruined it for me. Damon Linlelof did what he does best and created a crap screen play that cannot be resolved ("Lost" anyone), and dont even mention the characters from both recent sequels! I quite liked Alien 2-4 because they kept the Alien as something unknown / not connected with Earth, at least in where it originally came from. I guess it was just too difficult to continue the Alien story in the direction that the great artwork that we see always suggests, and keep it "unreal", keeping it Alien. The whole thing has lost its Alienness, i need to go back to my Giger and Beksinski books for this now. Can it be rescued? I dont think so, not by a big studio anyways.

My recommendation. An Alice in wonderland / Wizard of Oz style film, with minimal actors set in a Necromicon style greyscale world full of imaginative sets and creepy as hell. If David has to be involved then make him the wizard, but creep us out FFS.

Lindeloff did not create much of what we got, it was still based off Jon Spaights Alien Engineers.

FOX felt that the Engineers ideas were something to concentrate on more and to tone down the Xenomorph connection as far as being a kind of literal Prequel, and having to show case Eggs, Face Huggers and Chest Busters.

Prometheus had flaws for sure, Lindeloffs drafts were not as untidy as the actual movie we ended up with, and as far as sequels, FOX felt in hindsight cutting the Xenomorph out and moving away from Alien was a mistake and that actually showing the Creation of the Xenomorph and leading up to how it arrived on the Derelict on LV-426 was the way to go.

Which gave us Alien Covenant by Harper and Logan and well this story was even more of a hash job and mess.

I do like the visual connection to both Fifield's mutation and the far too huge Trilobite creature in Prometheus.

This is how I imagined the film :O (Image 3, 5, 6)
