Luke Skywalker represents both the Light and Dark Side in new The Last Jedi marketing display!
Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie news, trailers and cast

Star Wars: The Last Jedi December 15th, 2017

Luke Skywalker seemingly no longer fights for the light side of the Force in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. IMAX recently unveiled an exclusive display banner encouraging fans to "choose the Light or Dark Side of the Force".

The graphics separate Rey on the left seemingly representing the Light Side of the Force, while Kylo Ren is positioned on the right representing the Dark Side. What's caught our attention however is that Luke Skywalker is present on BOTH sides of the graphic. On the Light Side, Luke is seen without his hood up but while on the Dark Side, his hood is up and his overall facial expression looks rather sinister.

Seeing Luke at the end of The Force Awakens initially ignited the theory that Luke was dabbling in the Dark Side. His grey robe represents the Grey Jedi, known to fans as those Force sensitives who practice both the Light and Dark sides of the Force to create ultimate balance. But could Luke be falling prey to the pull of the Dark Side? Could he have discovered something about the balance of the Force that may have upset his initial conditioning and draw to the Light Side? Things are definitely heating up. Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments section!

Not likely.

Luke is in the background because he is both character's master. The movie will probably delve in to how he dealt with teaching both of them, and what went wrong therefore he's the background to both as he colored both characters destinies.

Also outside that he's the biggest living character in the SW universe and the focal point of the original trilogy so there's also marketing reasons.

IMHO, Ryan Johnson has made Luke into a wimp, I think this will hurt the franchise.

I gave up on the Series after being disappointed by Episode 1. A dark Luke might entice me to watch though.

It's no secret that Hamill was very upset with how Johnson wrote Luke in this film.  Those expecting a RotJ-style return to form for the character are going to be disappointed.

I believe we'll see a conflicted Luke; he refuses to be drawn into conflict and that's why he's still haunting the same planet his padawans were slaughtered on.  The final film I hope will have an epic return for Luke... perhaps interceding to save our heros from the clutches of Snoke .. and an epic showdown  between the two masters ensues.
