Godzilla vs. Kong director, Adam Wingard, was recently caught by IGN at San Diego Comic Con to talk about his approach to the anticipated MonsterVerse crossover. Although Wingard is in the very early stages of planning, he's been very excited and meticulous about the process,

"It's been a pleasure already in the first stages of it, having an excuse to go back and watch 30 Godzilla movies and justifying it to yourself. For me, it's about taking the series to the next level. It's easy to demonize Godzilla on one hand, but I have a lot of emotional attachment to both monsters."

The latter comment will undoubtedly perpetuate conversation among fans about whether or not Godzilla will take an antagonist role in the upcoming slugfest. Wingard continued to speak about working on such a big scale project with Birth Movies Death:

"When you’re doing anything that involves a lot of money, it should not be an ‘us vs. them’ kind of thing, and as soon as you start treating it that way, it becomes that way. But as long as you’re open to ideas when they come—and sometimes they’re good and sometimes you have to push back—it’s just about being able to communicate. On Death Note, which had many producers and a lot of oversight on it, I felt like I was 100 percent able to make the movie I wanted to make."

His comments loosely address the partnership between producers and directors--A popular topic after the creative breakdown seen over the Han Solo movie.

He continued, speaking about the writing process and how he will soon hand story revisions over to screenwriter Terry Rossio.

"Terry ran the writers’ room, so he’s the personification of it, [the story] and everything we’re working on is first and foremost based on the outline they created there. We’re going in very great detail through all the characters, the arcs they have, how they relate to one another, and most importantly how they relate to the monsters, and how the monsters relate to them or reflect them. We’re also going beat by beat on the outline, because I have things that I want to add.

“So once again, it’s a discussion, and about feeling out how to make it as strong as possible, so that when Terry goes to write the screenplay, he has a definitive breakdown of what to include.”

It appears the film has its basic premise nailed down, what comes now is the actual screenwriting process of the revised story. Wingard also claimed he may visit the Godzilla: King of the Monsters set to get a feel for the post 2014 MonsterVerse and went on to address Kong's size to IGN.

"They gave us a good out in Kong when they mentioned that Kong is still growing, but that'll be a challenge we have to deal with, and we're very aware of that issue."

Godzilla vs. Kong is set for a May 22nd, 2020, Memorial Day weekend release. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will hit theaters March 22nd, 2019. However, before that, the King of the Monsters will make his feature length animated debut in Godzilla: Monster Planet hitting Japanese theaters November 17th this year. The film will hit Netflix worldwide some time after and will be followed by two sequels.

Hope they make Kong a little taller than Godzilla. Bigger, Stronger, & faster. Kong needs all the advantages he can get.

I just hope its a fair match for both sides and not make it one sided.

I don't think there's much of a chance of Kong being bigger than Godzilla. He's only less than a third of his size as it stands now, and I could see him maybe growing to 250-300 feet by 2020, but I don't see how they'd make him grow larger than Godzilla. Even in the original King Kong vs. Godzilla he was a little shorter than Godzilla. Kong will be the underdog against Godzilla, I don't think there's much chance that he won't be. Godzilla will have the size advantage, but Kong will be forced to rely on his other strengths to compete with him.

The dynamic will probably be Godzilla having size and power whereas Kong has youth and speed.

Godzilla

Advantages: Atomic Breath, heavier, bigger, more durable and more experiences.

Disadvantages: Shorter arms, slower, Kong's superior speed could give Goji a problem.

Kong

Advantages: Faster, more agile, longer arms, smarter(Not saying that Goji is dumb), and can use tools to his advantages,

Disadvantages: Lacks projectiles, smaller, not as durable, and Godzilla's Atomic Breath would do damage to Kong.

I think this battle could be fair as long Kong can dodge Godzilla's Atomic Breath.

If Kong gets his big arms around Godzilla's neck.. he could choke him to death... provided Godzilla doesn't beat Kong to death with that massive tail. In Edwards movie.. that tail was more than a formidable weapon.. He hit that MUTO so hard against the building.. that building came down upon him. NOW THAT'S POWER!

Kong's main advantage is his limberness.. but as he gets bigger.. he might slow down.

Godzilla's advantage is His breath.. obviously.. but he is a brawler when he fights.. You can see that in the PS4 game. He get in your face and is relentless... but Kong thinks.. and I see this new KK vs G movie as being a pretty even match. And I still think they're gonna go with the B vs S approach. Ghidorah too.. is formidable and may survive the next flick to fight in KK vs G in 2020.. and I still say the battle will be on skull island.. due in part to that cave painting we saw in Skull Island after credits scene. Think about it.. giant skulls.. Godzilla.. King Ghidorah.. all in one picture.  Yeah.

If I'm being honest I hope we won see the end if the fight or atleast have it be up to the viewers to decide who wins.

I think they made it a good point in the original KKvG. Kong is probably a lot smarter than Godzilla. He can use tools, he's very agile and strong.

Godzilla survived a freaking A-Bomb in 1954 and again with an even bigger bomb that made him take a power nap. Kong was thwarted by napalm, and they hurt him with some heavey machine gun. Godzilla was shot point blank by tanks! Plus not to mention his atomic breath.if they make kong around 300 to 320 feet and if they give Kong a freaking sword then maybe he would have a chance. haha

so I doubt they will do the sword idea so Godzilla as of right now seems to be the bigger contender. unless in 2020 they make it a plot point that Kong can communicate with humans somewhat then maybe a Godzilla might be introuble.

Kong should be fine as long he can avoid the Atomic Breath.
