Godzilla and MUTO Origins Revealed in Godzilla 2014 Toy Description!

Written By Chris Picard on 2014-03-06 23:19:34

The history and origins of the new 2014 Godzilla have been revealed, thanks to an image leak of another, upcoming Godzilla toy, the "Giant Size Godzilla". The packaging features a brief synopsis of not only Godzilla's origins, but also the origins to that of the MUTO. If you wish to avoid such information and potential spoilers, we urge you to not read any further...

Copied from this image, the origins are described below, followed by a breakdown of what it all means:

Possibly the last of an ancient species of giant amphibious creatures that evolved at a time when the surface of the earth was over 10 times more radioactive than it is today. GODZILLA can convert his radiation stores into a violent, focused exhalation of atomic ray. Rarely seen, but spoken of in antient Pacific Islan myths. 'Gojira' was last spotted in 1954 when the U.S Navy encountered and attempted to kill him with an atomic blast in the Pacific Ocean. Since then, the giant creature has been living in the deep ocean - until a threat to his survival from an ancient foe forces him to reappear.

Here's the image the excerpt above was taken from:

Here's what the excerpt reveals to us about both Godzilla, MUTO and the film's plot:

  • Godzilla is amphibious
  • Godzilla is male, not female
  • The atomic blast from 1954 did not kill Godzilla
  • Godzilla has been asleep in the Pacific Ocean for decades
  • The MUTO is an ancient creature, from the same time period that Godzilla existed in
  • Both Godzilla and the MUTO were natural enemies
  • Godzilla's atomic ray is consistent with previous films, though a rare occurance. Possibly because it does him harm or depleats his energy. The weapon may be more of a "last attempt" to survive, rather than a casual tool of destruction
  • Something resurrects the MUTO, which threatens Godzilla's survival
  • There could be more than one Godzilla in hibernation deep in the ocean

The information revealed from this description opens up our understanding of what Godzilla is and where he came from, as well as an idea of what the MUTO actually is. Be sure to check back often for more updates on Godzilla 2014 and take part in the Godzilla discussions in the Godzilla 2014 forums, here!

it says he is "amphibious" not an amphibian. not all amphibious animals are amphibians, take crocodiles for example.

Mar-06-2014 11:40 PM

Amphibious does not mean amphibian. It means Godzilla can travel on land and in water. Crocodiles are amphibious creatures for example.

Mar-06-2014 11:40 PM

haha! we made the same point at the same time LOL

Mar-06-2014 11:42 PM

Great minds think alike :P

Mar-06-2014 11:47 PM

Fixed that point for ya. ;)

Mar-06-2014 11:54 PM

I'd also point out that there's nothing in there that says Godzilla and Muto are from the same time period, and that sentence that begins with "Rarely seen" is a separate thought from the line about his Atomic Ray. It's establishing context for the next sentence that refers to him as "Gojira". So we can't really assume anything about how often he uses his ray or what affect it has on him.

Mar-06-2014 11:54 PM

Thank god he's a male.

Mar-07-2014 12:01 AM

How do you read that and not see that Godzilla and the MUTO were from the same time period? An ancient foe, would need to exist for it to be a foe in the first place.

Mar-07-2014 12:08 AM

I see it too Sherlock and I think that is very interesting.

Mar-07-2014 12:12 AM

for godzilla to have an ANCIENT foe like the box STATES, the foe would HAVE TO EXIST in the same time he was. That's why it's a FOE

It's like saying "Yeah, my foe is Wooly Mammoths, but it's too bad they existed before my time", then they wouldn't be a FOE.

They existed during the same time. Easy concept to understand from that sentence.

Mar-07-2014 12:29 AM

@Chris Picard

Not necessarily. If I refer to my neighbor who keeps stealing Ebony magazines from my mailbox as "my 90-year-old foe", it doesn't mean he's been my foe for 90 years. It just means I don't really need to bother calling the cops because he's probably going to die soon anyway.

Mar-07-2014 12:31 AM

But if there's a Wooly Mammoth alive right now giving you bad feedback on eBay, he's your foe currently regardless of how old he is.

Mar-07-2014 12:35 AM

The context of the sentences are ancient times in which they use ancient in the same meaning. It's not hard to understand, the context is the information around it, they lived during the same time. Easy, simple, you don't have to think about it too hard. But feel free to. Look, BOTH of our meanings could be what it means, we'll see who's right when it comes out though. But I know I have it, it's in the script that was leaked.

Mar-07-2014 1:22 AM

Yeah the Muto might not be as old as Godzilla but it doesn't mean they have never fought befor this current time. Perhaps the Muto wanted to "absorb" Godzillas essence to become stronger whenever they encountered him in the past. So say Big G is 2000 years old and the Muto have only been around for 800 years.

My god. This is may be spoiling the movie for myself, but it's worth it. This is pretty awsome to finally hear this Godzilla will be prehistoric, he will have is atomic breath, and that he's male and not some self-reproducing entity.

We know so much more about Godzilla, yet nothing about the Muto. :O

Fai Nathaniel

Mar-07-2014 5:38 AM

I am guessing the government awaken and attempt to capture the MUTO, which awakens Godzilla.

Fai Nathaniel

Mar-07-2014 5:41 AM

And when it says,"rarely seen," for the atomic breath, that doesn't necessarily mean its is his weapon of last resort.

Mar-07-2014 5:49 AM

He just never really had to use it at the time. Kind of like how in Godzilla 2000, when at the part where Godzilla enters the bay the second time. He only used the ray against Orga, and not the military since the military wasn't a huge threat but Orga was. That is how I see it.

Mar-07-2014 6:28 AM

I KNEW IT! I always did theorize that Godzilla evolved at a time where nuclear radiation of the natural kind was ever-present, thus the creatures that lived in the era would also have been changed and evolved by way of "radioactive selection". Some creatures would evolve beyond normal evolutionary restraints to become the embodiments of "living gods" whom appear to defy the natural laws and yet abide by them at the same time.

My hibernation theory was also correct! If my theory of the gill structure proves true, I think I'm gonna go crazy!

Mar-07-2014 8:51 AM

com esto se aclara todo asi q godzilla a estado dormido durante decadas y ahora a despertado esto es genial estonces los mutos tanto como godzilla eran enemigos antiguamente es posible q godzilla sea preistorico igual q los mutos

What's up with this latest pic of winged MUTO? They all look like Cloverfield's cousin. This actually looks like the first MUTO (bioluminescent one) except with wings. Could be one and the same with just the wings just tucked in somewhere. Not very original looking and kind of dissapointing. Feel like it's a been there done that monster. Luckily, the monster seen diving in water, tearing into train, and striking helicpoter in the 2nd trailer is gray colored and looks nothing like this winged MUTO. Until I'm proved differently, I still see Rodan's shape and sillloette in the trailer. So, we have Godzilla, winged and non-winged MUTO (shown in toys), a still unknown flying MUTO (Rodan?), and the big surprise during the HALO jump, possiblty male Godzilla mating (yes quote me) with female Godzilla. We'll see!

Mar-07-2014 3:11 PM

um.. guys this is also available to pre order on as well for around 70-80 bucks. by the way anyone notice anything different besides me godzilla is grey not a redish tan color like the official godzilla empire magazine has on their cover.

Gojira 2014

Mar-07-2014 8:42 PM

Gravyzilla@ Yes yes I see. You think that the leaked MUTO toy is a rip off of otachi from pacific rim. But just for your information that otachi idea might have been Gareth Edwards idea first because he did state that he and the director of pacific rim extanged idea's with eachother. Also I think Gareth Edwards is starting to get annoyed because no matter how many times he tells you you still don't get that there are no Toho monsters in this movie...maybe a homage but not the exact monster. And I highly object that there is more than one Godzilla. If there is more then one godzilla then it just shows that godzilla is weak and needs more of his kind to take these MUTO creatures down and the military, if we only have one godzilla then it will prove how powerfull one godzilla can be. This movie will stick to the original toho godzilla. More then one big G doesn't really show that he is king of the monsters now does it?

Mar-08-2014 10:21 AM

godzilla mating with a female godzilla?....

gawd.. that would ruin the movie for me completely. actually, having a second godzilla in the first place would kinda ruin it for me.. there is only ONE king of the monsters!

hearing all these theories, it sounds like they are going for a more animalistic godzilla (a dumb raging animal, who exists just to feed and breed).. kinda like zilla in the 98 movie. something i dont like at all. hopefully they are just terrible bullsh1t theories

edit: aah gawd! you got my brain thinking.. what if godzillas roar is not a roar at all?, BUT A MATING CALL!!

i really hope you are wrong aswell gary..

Mar-08-2014 3:36 PM

THIS is not that far off from the story line of Gojira raids again. The "muto' toy.. looks too (man made) obvious to be an ancient foe... unlike ANGUIRUS... who is an ancient foe of Gojira. My money is on a creature like Anguirus. as well as other monsters. MABEY even a second yet smaller Godzilla. I can't wait.. but I'll have to.

Just an unrelated question, anybody know/estimate how much the giant figure will cost when its officially released?
