Early yesterday Warner Bros. and DC released an amazing and somewhat mysterious trailer for this Novembers Justice League; a movie that for all intents and purposes holds the future of the DCEU on its shoulders. While the trailer was very impressive, fans have been burnt before by the marketing campaigns for Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman, which promised so much and ultimately failed to deliver. The same could also be said for the previous two Thor movies which focused too much on the relationship between Asgards God of Thunder and Padme from Star Wars; Natalie Portman. What has, and what will continue to be a highlight of the MCU are the character moments between the characters the fans care about, the Heroes. Everyone loves Tom Hiddleston's megalomaniacal Loki, everyone loves Mark Ruffalo's uncontrollable Hulk, and everyone loves Chris Hemsworths slightly cocky rendition of Thor, but what everyone loves more is when these characters "bounce" off one another, both figuratively and literally.
What a trailer. Full of color, vibrancy, scale and impending doom, and the closing line from a refreshed looking Hulk, "Hulk like raging fire, Thor like smoldering fire."
Thor Ragnarok may not be as big a movie as Justice League in direct comparison but with both of these movies hitting theaters in November for the first time a DCEU and MCU movie will compete against each other head on, and in all honesty either could emerge the victor if the other fails to deliver on its promises. With most of the DCEU and previous Thor movies having failed audiences in the past, I cannot, in all honesty, predict which movie will emerge victorious at the box office, until the movies have been screened for critics.
