Director of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow recently sat down with Empire to discuss the latest trailer for the film, which by today has surpassed 25 million views. During the interview Colin discusses why he chose to create a new Dinosaur and why the Raptors running alongside Owen, Chris Pratt's character, at the end of the trailer, aren't trying to eat him. Read on for exceprts from the interview...

Regarding the D-Rex, Trevorrow comments:

“There is no shortage of awesome [real] dinosaurs. We could have populated this entire story with new species that haven’t been in any of these movies. But this new creation is what gave me a reason to tell another Jurassic Park story. We have the most awe-inspiring creatures to ever walk the Earth right in front of us, but for some reason that’s not enough. We’re always hungry for the next thing, and those who profit from it are always looking to feed that hunger. The focus groups want something bigger than a T-Rex. And that’s what they get.”

Following that Colin touches on the Mosasaur; the massive marine reptile seen eating a Great White Shark in one of the opening cutscenes:

“The idea came out in one of our first meetings,” says Trevorrow. “I didn’t know if Steven [Spielberg] and Frank [Marshall] had considered an underwater reptile, so I pitched the mosasaurus and went off on the idea.”

“I thought it would be cool if we had this massive animal and the park used one of our most fearsome modern predators as food. There could be a whole other facility where they used shark DNA to mass-produce them to feed the bigger beast. It’s a bonkers idea, but I’m comfortable going to Crazytown, because I used to live there when I was a kid.”

Finally, Trevorrow lends some insight to the interesting dynamic between Owen and the Raptors seen at the end of the trailer. For this, here's what he had to say:

“Owen’s relationship with the raptors is complicated. They aren't friends. These animals are nasty and dangerous and they'll bite your head off if you make the wrong move. But there are men and women out there today who have forged tenuous connections with dangerous predators. That's interesting territory to me."

Interesting territory indeed. With so much riding on this film, and Universal already planning two more sequels following Jurassic World's release, let's hope Colin's new ideas sit well with audiences. Not that we have any doubt they will - the trailer alone has most of us forgetting our doubts about "tamed" raptors and hybrid Dinosaurs.

The D-rex is not as horrible as the mosassaurus

seriously, the size exaggeration is too much
that thing is almost as big as a freaking blue whale
If it was, perhaps, manage to free himself into the ocean, imagine what would happened

@T-rex White

You've got a really good point...

Following JPTG Cannon, it should've been much MUCH Smaller...

Like, Seriously, In JPTG, It was only like 4 metres... (Or something)

This is blown out of proportion, But if you think about it, Colin needed it to Completely Eat the shark... So, this was kinda the only way to do that...

even then its a little Too big to even be in said Lagoon Enclosure...

Even one half that size would Suffice...

MemberCompsognathusNov-27-2014 6:06 PMactually the great white is usually Around 21 feet and mosasaurus specimen are 51 feet so that argument is a bit invalid

I wished the raptors and Rexie will stop Diabolus Rex from terrorizing the visitors at Jurassic World.
