I had the thought yesterday about this planet being home to humans! I figure they were either a previous attempt by the Engineers, or the bad happenings to the Engineers on LV_223.

It isn't fore sure, but the scale of somethings in the second trailer and there being wheat on the planet points to human inhabitants I think

The fact we are seeing the proto in its full glory in the trailer leads me to think we are not seeing something more sinister until the film?

A Shaw-morph!

Lets face it, it's not like David has no material on the planet to experiment with!

The wheat fields are a great catch. Perhaps a race of humans conceived by the Engineers after all..? Wonder what they could have done to piss the Engineers off....Global warming?, mismanagement of resources? Lifetime Move Network...?

I was studying the shot with thousands of mummified humanoid bodies,and I did a little size comparison with David.They look like engineers to me.

And here is the YouTube I shared last year in January.  I said it then and now we know... Shaw's in 'Alien: Covenant' more and you can tell by how Rapace smirks/smiles/laughs when responding to her role in it.  Starts at 0:43.

And of course, there are these Giger works in which we could consider Shaw's potential fate...

There was a scene in Vincent Ward's Alien 3 script (taking place on the wooden planetoid) where the monks are harvesting wheat and the creature begins to attack them there. I remember a description of a shot from above, where the wheat parts as the Xeno moves in for the kill as the monks start torching everything. From alot of captures we've seen, it looks like Ridley paid homage to the finer details in the series... I know air-born infection was from another A3 script - I think the wheat attack maybe here for that reason too - always wanted to see that brought to life and now it looks like we may get the chance!

I had suspected humans inhabited that planet. (PARADISE) and something happened such as the "great flood" that wiped them out. Obviously the flood was some form of nuclear weapon or something to do with the goo. 

This is gonna get very interesting, especially if Big Dave chimes in.

@Tropics  I was gonna post something on another thread and now after reading this I think something happened to the dead engineers or whoever they are prior to David and Shaw coming to Paradise. How prior I don't know, could have been a long time ago.

The thing is, the engineers in prometheus had big head statues in the installation, but had engineers in it, why would the engineers have these statues if they were for worship?

Ill stick by the fact that the bodies in the trailer are suddenly vaporised by a weapon to prevent an outbreak of the black goo. They are dressed like the engineers at the beginning of Prometheus and are possibly citizens of the engineer capital. 

Unless the engineers have multiple hierarchical castes, and i dont see this anywhere in canon, david acts as prometheus, unleashing the fire of the gods on the gods themselves.

I think David has kept Shaw alive to birth his creations, i'm guessing the eggs come from her due to the effects of the black goo and his experiments. She probably ends up being the first true biomechanical Xeno too merging with the parts from the ship where she is being restrained. No sign of the Ultramorph yet just Neo & Proto? The Xeno will be the alpha i'm sure! Hope we get a good bit of background on the engineers?!

What I keep coming back to is how would David have survived all this time if there were still engineers or whoever they are exactly on this planet. I mean he's clearly outnumbered, how did he survive wouldn't they have just torn him apart. Or did he earn their respect somehow and he turned on them? Testing his weapons on them or whatever he had created. That's why I think these beings have been dead sometime, weren't the engineers on LV-223 killed thousands of years ago. What stopped this engineer race from continuing their mission to destroy us all these years. I think the engineer race has been dead for a long time, an apocalyptic event, some kind of genocide. I could be completely wrong though.

And why if there are engineers left haven't they cleaned up all these messes that they make? LV-223, a totally abandoned planet? the crash on LV-426, are there really any engineers left?

I think we need to remember that the xeno/egg combo must have been created before or around the time the engineers died...when everything went to ****.

Shaw said the dead engineers in Prometheus were 2000 years old....which to me, would mean the ship in ALIEN with the eggs and fossilized engineer were also that old. Maybe that ship was enroute to earth (per the Eng plan referenced in Prometheus) and an alien burst out and caused the ship to crash on the nearby moon. The xeno was a queen and laid the eggs until she finally died(over the course of that 2000 yrs) and the eggs opened when hosts came near...ALIEN...and then ALIENS. In fact the 'deacon' xeno at the end of Prometheus reinforces this since David didn't alter anything with the goo in Prometheus.

So there seems no way David created the eggs in ALIEN or had a hand in any of the xenos we have seen up until now in ALIEN, ALIENS, ALIEN3. I think the neos and protos we are seeing and hearing about are the result of David ****ing with the goo post Prometheus. If Covenant rewrites history and somehow connects David to the xenos we saw in the other films it will ruin the Alien canon for me. Thoughts?

Did anyone else notice the room in the trailer (with the alien stalking above) with all the drawers hanging on the walls. i wonder if this was David's "office and lab"?

The idea of the Deacon making a comeback gets me so pumped. I suspected that if they were showing us so much in the second trailer, they must have SOMETHING up their sleeves

Also guys, don't make the mistake that just because Ridley put in Aliens "for the fans," it doesn't automatically mean that the story will suffer. That's a very illogical conclusion to make. Let's just cool our jets and not jump to irrational conclusions.

Well, as far as what happened to Shaw, it would follow that if she and David took off in the Engineers ship and went to 'wherever they came from" and indeed the Covenant lands where they did and that ship now has eggs, David must have dipped his finger in some goo again andused Shaw as the firs Queen.. Thats my guess..

Points to Goddamn Tropics in Here for noticing the blatant reveal of the Protomorph. There is something else we won't see in the trailers. ;) and oh... It seems like it falls right in line with our report of there being 3 primary new aliens in Covenant. Haha Let the doubters doubt, but we've known since 2015 almost. So exciting to see everything falling into place. 

They are couples, why does it matter if they are the same sex, cause they can't have children? Sure they can, a surrogate mother. Couples are couples, regardless of what sex they are, love is love.

Colonization means they could probably create new life there, how the gays can create new life? Let me explain it to you my friend, the only reason they are bringing gays on that mission is because the producers wanted to be politicaly correct! 

According to the footage description,they are on-board the USCSS Covenant vessel, a Weyland-Yutani colony ship transporting 2000 colonists that are frozen in cryo stasis.During their journey they came across this planet,detected the distress signal and landed to investigate.And since its a Earth like world they were considering to colonize it (until they discovered a deadly threat).

I'm just saying because there is absolutely no need for that, no sense in that at all! I love this franchise, love the movies, watched Aliens first back in 1987 and than the first one, fell in love immediately with the story, the concept, but this stuff with gays is very annoying.

There is no need for them to portray human life as it really is? Their are gay people in the world man, get over it, they are out there and they're just as human as anyone else in the entire world and should be treated as such. I don't know what else to tell you.

@salomonj, The Deacon won't be in Covenant, however there is artwork of it in David's workshop. This suggests the Deacon is not a one-off. It may be one of the stepping stones along the way to perfecting the Black Goo weapon.

Or... Maybe it IS in Covenant and they're just not telling us. Hahaha maybe there is an Ultramorph locked away somewhere in the catacombs beneath the Engineer city? Hmmmm....

Thats interesting.... because they describe some sets as seen in the Trailer... so if they have been legitimately there during production then this is interesting news...

I have started to gather some faith in the movie now... after being put off with the various leaks like 4Chan....  now seems to be in serious question..

One the other hand.... the Information from the Source in February 2015 seems to match up with what this Person who walked around the sets and saw some Concept designs.

Yes! On to Shaw's fate. Well, I believe David performs experiments on her and creates the homophobamorph. David has learned the Engineers had decided on wiping out humans of Earth because of their unwillingness to accept one another as equals. David is just doing "god's work". We learn there are all types of morph's. The xenomorph was created to deal with the racist humans. The homophobamorph for humans who hated gays. The list goes on! So many weapons for so many type of hateful human beings! Just a theory. Who knows.

@Goddamn Tropics in here, @Tiago_Miami_la, yes i was thinking same thing the past coupla weeks, i believe fox and ridley are keeping a tight reign on shaws ultimate fate in other words a surprise and a shock for the viewers, just hoping.

Really? who gives a rats if their is a coupla gay blokes in the movie, i am going to see the film because i love alien and prometheus and want to be on the edge of my seat with scares and shocks and thought provoking themes about mankinds origins to get that childhood sparkle back in my eyes that was being scrubbed out slowly with all the BS going on in the world.

The part about Elizabeth Shaw's head surrounded by tubes and machines sounds a lot like H.R. Giger's LI 2 painting. It would be interesting to see Elizabeth become a Xenomorph and David become some evil scientist. To see these two characters transform from hopeful and somewhat naïve individuals to dangerous monsters is very interesting.

So, if he saw drawings of Shaw with tubes coming out of her head - That doesn't necessarily mean she's been Giger-fied as a Birth Machine does it? Maybe it's just a design for Shaw in the Engineers Cryo-Tube - I've got to a point where I'm not taking anything as read. But it's shaping up to be a pretty shocking movie.

No way Shaw is dead, so then she must on another planet or in orbit around the planet or on a wessel to elsewere in cryosleep.

If David is the sole survivor on that planet that should mean he is not having Shaw as a egg-hatching machine or made her to a alien of some sort because that would mean she must be alive, one way or another.

And the only one alive,or should we say "turned on" on that planet , is David.

I do think that the inclusion of a gay couple in the Covenant crew fits perfectly the background we have about reproduction, alien gestation, who gives birth to what and so on. It's like to cover the subject from many different points of view - from subjugating someone to involuntary experimentation (as it seems to be what David just did) to the ones who can't impregnate each other by the biological limits of their own species. It gives even more grandiosity to what David is doing and, at the same time, brings back the sexual symbolism in a very direct way. I'm the biggest anti PC **** in the world, but I honestly don't think this is the case here.

And about Shaw's fate, I go along with some guys who commented above about David using her to give birth to the eggs. This would not only be amazing to see in the screen (imagine the scenes you can take out of it?! I can almost see Fassbender's expression while doing experimental surgical procedures all over Shaw), but also would explain and add a lot to the plot. Shaw finally got "whatever was coming to her", as Ripley once said, or better - whatever she went looking for...

I read the full report of the set visit.  It said that there will be more than one survivor at the end of the movie.  Its obviously Daniels and Tennessee right?   Or am I completely wrong. 

Am I the only one who thinks its awesome to see Danny McBride in a movie like this.    I hope he crushes it.  

The truth is, I no longer think anything bad has happened to Shaw. David was very fond of her and when Fassbender commented on this movie, he spoke of her in the present tense. Said they're like a married couple and always bickering. They get on each others' nerves or more so David on her nerves to be specific. I think there are TWO cloaked figures in the trailers. One is David the other is Shaw. It's basically turned into Hatfields and McCoys between the two. The wheat is something she planted and has been cultivating food for the last ten years while David's being doing his Dr. Frankenstein routine at the temple. I think her screen time will be limited and we wont fully see her until the end. I get the feeling this is going to be the devil vs a guardian angel. David playing the Devil and Shaw trying to protect the crew. After all, it was originally called Paradise Lost. The engineers made a deal with the devil, and lost their souls in the end(the black goo and whoever created it). Whatever the "God" life form is, I'm betting is responsible for the dead engineers we see. It was time to pay up.

I think what we meant by them getting on each others' nerves, is him constantly trying to find ways to create hideous lifeforms and her finding ways to foil it. I wouldn't be surprised, if the convenant wasn't the first crew to come across the planet.

BTW, I dont think that picture is Shaw. Like I said, Fassbender spoke of her in the PRESENT tense in the interview. If that's Shaw, it's remarkably well preserved for a ten year old or so corpse. I'm betting that's Crudup's character. After all you have the classic xenomorph right above and the cavity is in his chest. ;)

@Dsparil   Wow! I like that theory a lot! I am of the sort who thinks David won't experiment on Shaw either, he does care for her and I just can't see him doing anything terrible to her either.

I was contemplating the same thing regarding David and Shaw, and david 'caring for her' but then I remembered he didnt save her from the infection and alien'baby' ...he tried to drug her and then refused to help her when she begged him to remove the embryo (which he claimed he wasnt equipped to do) but yet she got it done with the surgery machine.

Yep I understand that but she did end up saving him. And maybe all those things he did to Holloway and not helping her was part of his programming. If put in that situation what if he was following procedure in his programming. **** man, I don't know I just don't think he is capable of all these crazy and terrible things people are saying he does but I could be totally wrong.

Yeah but the thing is, the majority of what he did in prometheus was under Weyland's orders and programming. For better or worse, he is free of all of that. The most I see him doing is splicing her with an engineer's DNA to prolong her life. I can see an angry yet understanding Shaw who is trying to reign in David. I think we're going to have a nice surprise. Revolution, retribution and redemption us the phase David is going to go through and I imagine that'll heavily involve Shaw with typical clueless company people, aliens and engineers all caught in the middle. In a way Shaw represents God, i.e. her religious beliefs, while David is very clearly the devil. I think various characters in the covenant crew will fill in for Faust. I.em Billy Crudup being seduced by David via curiosity and sacrificing his soul in the end for it i.e. facehugged.

ETA: I also think the choice between Good and Evil will also be shown with David leaving on he covenant as the crew moves on with Shaw in hot pursuit in another Juggernaut. I think a lot of the 4chan leak was right but it was 3rd, 4th or even 5th hand information. I think it was woefully incomplete. Whoever posted it...... well friend of a friend of a friend of a friend etc, ad nauseum. David is the symbol of corruption and evil. And evil certainly does follow him around i.e. diabolical creatures. Shaw is the symbol of purity and constantly trying to stop him without getting herself killed. Hence why Fassbender referred to them like a bickering married couple. Opposites attract.

I definitely feel a heartless synthetic vibe from David, no matter what the outcome. The question to me is how it will affect the overarching story and its mythos. I wonder whether the evil present there will be just another thing one can blame the company for, and not something deeper/disturbing. Surely seems as though Sir Riddles used black when painting this canvas :)

I just hope there's gonna be some hot sex scene involving that gay couple, maybe it could be the main twist ;-) what if only they survive? It would be so epic...

Good, I like that there are Xenos in it. They could have made the Engineers interesting but they failed so I like that there is more focus on the monsters. I don’t think that they need Xeno action the whole time but it is good that there will be a closer connection.

As far as CGI, it can enhance things but it is good if they use practical things as much as possible. Star Wars 1-3 are examples where they used it too much.

I didn’t see the Shaw thing so that would be a bit interesting to see what becomes of it. That is a good thing that she won’t be in it that much. She could be interesting if she is used as a test object by David. Maybe she is being turned into a monster or a birth machine for monsters. If her annoying personality won’t be in it then it is alright. There are some people that want to know what became of Shaw so she could maybe be in a flashback scene for some minute or two so those that want to see some of her get some scene featuring Shaw, even though I don’t like that character.

That is a good thing that there will be more gore but the most important thing is relatable characters. It seems that the characters will be better this time (I draw that conclusion from the trailers).

Maybe we will see a bit of what happened to the Deacon. It could be interesting if they could tie the Deacon on LV-223 to AC but they need to do that in a clever way to make it work.

Perhaps we could see Engineers in flashbacks, that could work. They don’t need to remove the Engineers totally but the could show us in flashbacks what happened to them. Imagine most of their planet being hit by some virus or something so at least most of them died. Yes I remember what they describe as a Pompeii scene, that could be interesting so we will see some of them at least.

There are many ideas about what could have pissed the Engineers off so much so they decided to exterminate humans. I think that we just have to use our imagination in order to get answers about that.

 My biggest issue is this: they originally said she was technically not dead. But, now, we're hearing that Rapace shot weeks worth of scenes. We also learn that her story is 1/3 of the entire movie and you have Fassbender referring to their relationship in the present tense. He refers to them as like a married couple that get on each others nerves.

With all of that, I think it's quite clear the "technically not dead" idea was thrown out. Kind of like how the Prometheus script was drastically changed with Lindelof. I got the impression that Rapace want out of the series, but with the weeks worth of scenes being shot, I'm guessing she had a change of heart. Maybe Ridley convinced her to stay on board given that Lindelof no longer had anything to do with it. Too much information currently conflicting with the "technically not dead" idea. Weeks worth of shooting I'd a LOT of shooting for someone lying comatose in a hypersleep chamber or strung up on a machine. And Fassbender did affirm that David is still very fond of her. Just my two cents.
