The path to Paradise begins in Hell... The new Alien: Covenant trailer has taken the internet by storm and has sparked numerous discussions already in the Alien: Covenant forums. Fans were quick to point out the Neomorph attack scene among many thrilling new cut-scenes. Below are some screenshots I made of this particular scene so that members here and readers passing by can get a closer look at the new, Xeno-like abominations.

Neomorph Attack

Neomorph Attack

Born from Black Goo spore pods, these Neomorphs seem to be about half the size of a fully grown adult Human - roughly 4 feet tall we're guessing. Mind you, they do have long limbs but prefer to move on all fours - so they could stand as tall as an average Human, but the size relation of the Neomorph seen here to the gun and Covenant crew member holding it suggest these aliens are quite a bit smaller than the hosts they birth from.

Neomorph Attack

Neomorph Attack

What they lack in size, they make up for in sheer aggression. The Neomorph seems to prefer ripping the faces off its prey - lunging and scratching at the eyes and face until nothing remains but a bloody, exposed skull...

You can also see its dorsal spikes remain small and sharp but almost seem deformed. The skeletal structure of these beings are truly Alien...

Neomorph Attack

Neomorph Attack

The skull is quite Xenomorph-like, with its curved dome, however it is not nearly as long as that of the Xenomorph. Its flesh is skin-colored and/or semi translucent. Its tail looks smooth and covered in skin, rather than the hard exoskeleton of its Xenomorph cousins.

Looking at the Neomorph, I wonder - Was the Neomorph a failed experiment? A genetic anomaly?

The heightened aggression, the seemingly deformed body shape and infantile stature suggest this is an underdeveloped creature and one that has a significant host of issues. Is this one of David's own experiments with the Black Goo and Human DNA? Is the Neomorph a failed attempt at creating the Perfect Organism?

The Neomorph also seems to withstand a direct hit from the assault rifle with ease and no real effect.

This suggests another structure and organic composition than the xenomorphs high pressure and acid filled exoskeleton.

Maybe more sponge or blob like and without the acid blood. (the victim would already be sprayed by it normally when wounding an Alien close range)

Its very hard to tell because of the lighting, but in ultra slow mo it appears the victim thats about to be mauled, defends itself (successfully?) with a knife or melee weapon to the neck of the Neomorph.

The fight almost appeared a little bit awkward to me. First of the Neo does not seem to be that much stronger than a woman (biologically speaking dont get triggered) and secondly it somehow tried to figure out to find a way of killing its prey. Its claws and teeth seem unfit and the tail isnt even sharp.

It wants to act like the instinctive predator/killing machine Xeno but just does not have the physical constitution to do so.

I dont think the victim with the bloody face/skull that Bichirs character griefs later on was the same we saw in this Neomorph attack. Maybe he found his boyfriend (lmao) who was the victim of the infamous throatburster.

And the Neos probably have more going for them than just being underdeveloped Xenos that want to rip off faces.

That analysis of the scene was a little bit trivial.

And as Weyland said to David, try harder.

I think the key here is in the comment one of the colonizers make when they arrive on the planet - about the extreme silence and lack of animal life.

What probably happened is that when the Juggernaut arrived, for some reason (maybe a bad landing), the black goo from the cargo bay leaked to the external environment. So what we are seeing is the result of natural selection of black goo interacting with the original organisms of the planet. If so, both the Neomorph and the Xenomorph are hybridizations of the black goo with different organisms - and maybe the Xeno is winning, but winning in the way an invasive species do - without natural predators, imbalancing the ecological equilibrium. That's why that world is desert.

Or maybe the leak was intentional from the part of Shaw or David. Maybe when Shaw arrived at the Engineers homeworld she was quickly killed by them, and David leaked the goo in retribution. We will see...

It's looking more and more like David is one really bad dude.  I thjink he is responsible for creating everything, intentionally.  And his goal is to get the face huggers back to the orbiting ship.  You can see/hear that something makes it back to the ship when Daniels asks "where is it?"

The excitement is high on here as can be expected by such an intense trailer. However, I see we are getting some people on here that think they get their point across by insulting others opinions.

Not cool.

Insulting other's opinions? I don't see any insulting, if it's about me I just said I didn't understand his comment. I mean if he thinks that's funny well that's his opinion, and I actually have no idea if that's how he feels, but it doesn't mean that I won't or can't say anything. This is a site for people's opinions right and for the occasional disagreement. I did not insult this person, no name calling nothing of that sort. I commented on his comment.

Those 2 neomorphs look different than each other. The first one has longer, elogated head while the second one appears to have shorter and more bulbous head.

Its nice to see that they used the unused concept artwork of the creature that bursted out of Holloway from Alien: Engineers script by Jon Spaihts.

First I am a gay man who fought in Afghanistan for 5 years and think it's hilarious two members on here are writing about gay characters.  Anyone who has a problem with the phrase "found his boyfriend" needs to work on their sexuality. @Inquisitor Fifield and @Dr. Curt Connors.  This is about the Neomorphs in Alien Covenant and a characters sexual preference should not be discussed or made fun of. And you were making fun of it so don't try and say you weren't. The only reason someone would bring that up is because they are not sure of themselves and the only way they know how to deal with their own homosexual tendencies is by making fun of someone else's. You two also seem to be flirting with each other the only way closet cases know how (stroking each other's egos). You are born gay or straight and its amazing Ridley Scott has gay characters in this film. It reflects REAL life. You think gay men and women can't be tough or kick someone's ass think again. I know this post won't even be up that long because I didn't even write about the Neomorph and I'm responding to what two ignorant members wrote but it was worth it.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 7:29 AM

I was actually sticking up for gay people if you read my comments. I said I didn't understand why he said laugh my ass off to that, I guess you didn't read my first post. I have nothing but respect for gay people I am friends with gay people. Don't attack me for not reading the comments I made.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 7:34 AM

Maybe you should pay more attention to the details I wrote. Why do you think Fifield responded that way he did initially to what I was saying. Cause I was sticking up for gay people, hence I don't understand the laugh my ass off comment to his boyfriend, then I said, whatever it doesn't surprise me unfortunately, how is that nothing but sticking up for gay people. Go through other posts I've made on here I do nothing but stick up for gay people.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 7:37 AM

Start with the beginning of the comments before you jump on somebody for something they said later that you didn't understand properly.

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 7:39 AM

@Chad

I have not been on the forum long but I believe you are barking up the wrong tree with with the good Doctor Connors. from what I have seen, He is probably the biggest advocate for gays on this site.

The Alien universe as a whole has some really uncomfortable stuff so a lot of discussion hits on so many different areas, some of which are uncomfortable, but should not be mean-spirited or ugly.

Also lets not be overly sensitive. Insults or demeaning words are just plain wrong, but general comments about subjects can be broached here.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 7:40 AM

@suwhited  Thank you very much, you are a good man.

Chad Ripley

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 7:43 AM

Why say I got ya to @Inqusitor Fifileds then? I saw u said u didn't understand the Lmao comment but then say it was about a different comment someone else wrote. If you are defending gay people then great. But it is confusing when you read the other comments. What Fifilds wrote is ridiculous. And yes I keep spelling his name wrong because I don't care to go back and spell it correctly. It doesn't really matter because two gay characters are in AC and no one can change that. I hope it pisses homophobes across the world off. People who still have a problem with someone's sexuality are hopeless

Chad Ripley

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 7:47 AM

If the good Dr Conners is pro gay great. That's how everyone should be but their not and I'm not gonna change that by posting something on here.  Acting like he deserves a medal (or anyone for that matter) for being a decent human being is a little much.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 7:49 AM

I thought @suwhited was telling me that I need to not insult other's opinions, it was a mixup. We cleared that up and Fifield said relax he just thought he would never see that in an Alien movie so I said I got ya. From what I gathered he wasn't trying to be hurtful. I guess I try to see the good in people.

So, the Neomporph may be better served not running head on and trying to rip someone apart just yet. I agree, it looks/feels a little bit infantile, in relation to the variations of creatures that we have seen so far in the franchise.

Can't know for sure how it works yet, but I do like the idea commented on here that the Neomorph may indeed be a failed experiment by David. Or I guess we will see what combination of goo, facehugger, sex, etc. that makes this thing up!

@Chad

One of the benefits of being a human is you are entitled to see situations through your own lens and personal experiences and have people respect your view even though they may not necessarily agree with everything you have to say.

Thank you for your expressive comments. However, I believe we are getting off track for this forum....

On with the Alien Covenant experience!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 7:53 AM

I don't want a medal and the people that run this site don't want things to get political. That's where this would go and unfortunately not everyone in this world are decent human beings, it will never be that way. This will never be like Star Trek where we have a federation of the planets, and I will end this here before we are told to not get political.

Chad Ripley

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 7:54 AM

I wrote nothing that was mean spirited or ugly. Just stated facts about people who are homophobic. If you truly are for gay people then you would understand I was offended and let it go. You don't have to keep writing how tolerant you are or how many gay friends you have. Pretty much all my friends are straight and I am very pro-straight.

I would hate to live in a world where everyone thought the same...

Enough of all that...let's go full on Neomorph discussion.

Going on what suwhited said about himself and just to let you know I don't think of him that way, he seems like a good guy to me too. But I'm an a hole too, but I've been trying for a long time to be the best person I can be. I got a lot of things to make up for and that will take the rest of the time I got here in this life. So on to the Alien: Covenant talk like suwhited said.

Chad Ripley

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 8:19 AM

Thanks guys, I agree with everything you wrote. Now about this crazy Neomorph lol. We know one of them bursts out of that guys back and kills the girl behind the glass and then gets blown up by the other girl. This other guy who's running around in the grass might be the one who bursts out of someone's neck. I wonder how many of these little beasts are gonna be in the movie. I think Ridley might go with a bunch of the neo's and one or two of the Xenos. I think that body in the lab with the cut open chest is shaw, and we know Billy Crudup's character gets facehugged. So did David experiment on Shaw and create a Xeno or protomorph? And the eggs are a result of that creature? The trailer provided a lot of clues and info to debate leading up to the premiere. I thought it was so cool to see Daniels go flying off that ship with the Xeno underneath

Yeah Daniels is awesome! I have seen a lot of theories on here that there is multiple neomorphs, how many I don't know. And yeah Crudup does get facehugged, so is that the xeno/proto we see at the end of the trailer? How long has it been for that one to grow that big or is that one already on Paradise? I don't know, great questions indeed @Chad Ripley and a lot of stuff I'm reading on here quite a bit of people don't think that is Shaw in David's lab. But it definitely could be. And you're welcome Chad

if this is the adult version of the neo i will be kinda disapointed as i was expecting something like the concepts....tall thin...demon like.

this would be a juvenile version however if they dont grow more then this then i think i will be kinda disapointed.i was expecting neomorphs to be more intimidating in size

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 12:10 PM

Maybe that thing in the field is something else. Or it could still be a neomorph but it all depends on how it was born. The only thing I know is facehugger=Xenomorph. There could be 3 different types of creatures though or more and things are just being kept secret til May 19th. The Xeno on the ship drooling did look a little different then the ones in previous films but I wonder if that's just because the effects have gotten better. I also have a killer sense of humor and can be witty and make fun of myself and my kind when it's appropriate. Butt, I don't wanna address this anymore because the rest of the guys put it behind them. Which also happens to be the best place to put things...

suwhited

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 12:14 PM

@Chad.

It looks like this may be the original monster ..What I am gathering is that further manipulation was done with this creature  through genetics, black goo, or maybe  some random jacking with the egg, to gain a more bio-mechanical version that was seen in Alien.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 12:18 PM

@Chad Ripley  Yeah there are definitely things they aren't showing us for sure. Most people on here I see are saying the Xeno at the end is a Protomorph. So is that the result of Crudup getting face hugged, not so sure cause like you say facehugger=xeno, but are these eggs different and create a somewhat different facehugger, so hence the Proto. So much to ponder and a third creature. Did you read the set report article? If not I don't want to ruin anything for you but that might tell you what the other creature is.

Chad Ripley

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 12:50 PM

@Dr Curt Conners where is this set report article? Is it on here somewhere and I just overlooked it? There's a high chance I did. I also get what your saying about the Proto and eggs being different. Months ago I think I posted a theory that David is gonna use Walter somehow to add the biomechanical element to the Xenomorph. Lots of people were saying it too I think. The one climbing on the ship at the end definitely doesn't appear to have the mechanical look the classic Xenos had so the proto theory could work, or it's just updated special effects but I don't think Ridley would let that slide. Like I think he knows how crazy fans (us) can be about details. And nice one @Inquisitor Fifield lol

Chris

AdminEngineerMar-01-2017 12:57 PM

@Dark Nebula, you may be right, after looking at the scene over and over a again. Could be different Neos attacking different members of the crew. Since there will be more than one of them scurrying around, it makes sense!

@Chad Ripley, Yeah the "David creates Xenomorph with biomechanical dna" is something we were told through trusted sources. This of course was also before the rewrites, but so far everything we've seen is adding up. Some have questioned it and flat out denied it, but the more we hear and the more we see of this film, the more likely it seems. The Alien, the Eggs, everything is too different and too organic to disregard that theory.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 12:57 PM

@Chad Ripley  I believe the set report article is on the main page, as I'm typing this I'm starting to think it isn't but pretty sure it is. And yeah that's a great theory and you're right that one does not look biomechanical at all. So maybe the next movie or possibly the one after will get to the biomechanical xeno, and yeah as much as I have heard there will be two more movies after Alien: Covenant!

suwhited

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 1:05 PM

@Chris

So what would motivate David to experiment on the Protomorphs with Biomechanical DNA (I am not even sure that it is possible...)? Maybe:

1) To create a whole new race where he is their "God"

2) Enhance the lethality of the original creature into an unstoppable killing machine. I wonder how the acidity of the Protomorphs blood compares with the Xeno's...

3) Just to see if it is possible. We know David is a curious George type that just wants "to see what he can do..."

4) David is altruistic and trying to create a workable defense organism against the Engineers and their mechanations.

Anybody else got any reasonable (or unreasonable) ideas...?

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 1:14 PM

I thought they would leave how the xeno became biomechanical for one of the next two movies they are gonna be making. And I kinda agree with a lot of people on here that David creating that specific xeno, the biomechanical one, would kind of take away from it's lore.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 8:04 PM

I have a feeling that the next alien will show how the biomechanical xenomorph came to be.

birdman

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 8:53 PM

When the juggernaut takes off at the end of Prometheus, isn't David's body on board too? I wonder, if after they land on Paradise, after some time (Engineer "meet and greet", black goo leakage, Shaw-Engineer interaction, etc.) could David's body be used to incubate various incarnations of pure/black goo-affected native organisms? For example... the alien "spore" we see floating towards a crew member's ear in the original trailer... Could it have been captured and somehow infused into David's body? We DO know that after a facehugger impants it's seed that the developing xeno inherits traits from it's host...

Even though the spore isn't xeno (but backburster-neomorph?), if it somehow COULD inherit David's traits (deliberate implantation), would a xeno be the spawn?

Damn this trailer's got me SO HOT RIGHT MEOW :P

birdman

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 8:56 PM

I know David isn't organic, but then again... Are Xenos fully organic, being biomechanical in appearance? And just to clarify, I don't mean the introduction of the alien spore happened directly after their (David and Shaw's) arrival... Rather after some time. After whatever happened, happened...

The Neomorph seems interesting. It seems like it has a longer part on the back of its head compared to the original Xenomorph. I wonder if it is there for some purpose? Compare this to the fact that fishes have gills to be able to breath under water.

To be able to move on all four, that reminds me of the alternative Fifield creature in Prometheus, it also did that.

I recognized that the skin is different compared to the Xeno. It looks closer to human skin but maybe I am mistaken about this. Could this be because a human (Shaw) has been used by David to get the Neomorph?
