20th Century Fox just revealed an insane new poster for Alien: Covenant! Unlike the first two posters which had a fairly ominous and simplistic look to them, this new variant features a full view of the "Protomorph" Xenomorph surrounded by what look to be dead Engineer bodies and other Aliens! The background looks very similar to Alien hive walls as well.

Ultimately this poster seems to depict a collage of chaos, showing the overthrow of the Engineer society by the infection of the hostile Alien race. The path to PARADISE begins in Hell... Check it out:

Very beautiful. Creepy... and beautiful.

This just confirms what happened to the engineers on the planet: They were attacked by a xenomorph hive ;)

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 7:06 AM

Also notice the crest at the top of the poster, looks like a Queen ;)

Davefried81

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 7:09 AM

I see a Queen Alien head, and a crapload of stuff.  Maybe the Engineers in the dome scene were all killed off by Aliens??

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 7:16 AM

Maybe I am hallucinating from all my meds I currently am on, but it sure looks to be a female body in the lower right portion of the poster. It also doesn't look it it is being attacked so much as in travail (childbirth..?)

Anybody else see this..?

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 7:16 AM

That is exactly what I said :)

Davefried81

Dangit, I cannot see the female body...i think we need someone to lighten this up?  I am at work creeping the forums and cannot be busted tweaking posters hahahah

I see it looks like a female breast, but it could be the Engineers crazy pecks? :)

I believe that Queen crest you're referring to is actually the top of another Mural, like the one found in the Ampule room in Prometheus. "Just another Tomb", perhaps someone opened the tomb?

Is this just a random poster made or is this trying to hint something on the actual movie itself?

I think the poster showed what happened to the engineers on the planet, just a guess ;)

Davefried81

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 7:49 AM

@Movie fan  I agree.  The bodies being attacked look like the images we have seen from the trailers and set photos.  Maybe an outbreak occured with the Xenos and and the Engineers decided to do a mass kill off to control it?

KingKaijuGojira

MemberChestbursterMar-23-2017 8:14 AM

I figured the Xenomorphs were responsible for the fall of the Engineers. But looking at the Xenos themselves, they look more like Protomorphs than Xenomorphs. They lack the bio-mechanical design we know. That means the Protomorph is just as vicious as the Xenomorph and just as deadly.

Definitely appears to be a mural and what could be a female 'Engineer'!

suwhited interesting, or could it be the leg from the facehugged engineer below with his foot hidden behind the head? It's difficult to tell when they're practically all merged together. Could totally be a female engineer though.

Good day. Longtime lurker. Really enjoy the thoughtful discussion on one of my favorite movies. I had an observation on this poster. None of these Aliens are showing there inner jaw. Am I wrong on that? Is it possible that these Aliens are the protomorphs or an iteration before the Xenomorph?

Chris yep it could be just that too keep up with the ambiguous spirit, but I also feel like it could hint at something that will either appear or be mentioned in AC or in any of the planned following films.

Too many things were briefly introduced and then hastily left behind in Prometheus as well as in pictures leading up to the film, with little to no payoff, which of course led to a lot of questions.

We ought to get at least a few more hints or explanations about the whole scope of events in AC.

I'm sure David has at least something to say after 10 years.

Thats the setting I want to see regarding the visual look, and think I can speak for a lot of fans out there. Very dark, gigeresque environment in a very huge scale and engineers!

It's rumored to be a set piece in the film, within the large cathedral depicting the story.

Zogar

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2017 10:41 AM

Beautiful and horrific. I love the composition. This more or less confirms what happened on LV223. Due to Scott's recent comments the the engineers didn't make the xenomorph, I assumed that the engineers harvested the black goo from the neomorph. But they broke out and killed them. Then again this poster shows non-biomech engineers. Could these be the inhabitants of Paradise? So many questions, roll on May 12th.

That looks great. They might give these painters away during opening night.

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2017 11:29 AM

Nice!  I agree with what Chris said- it reminded me of the mural in Prometheus where LMG said "this is just another tomb". And above the main alien poking his head out does seem to look like the upper portion of the head of a full grown queen... even some of the mouths look larger like queen mouths.

Deep Space

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 11:37 AM

Awesome image :)  Love the aesthetic.

Looks like two types of facehugger are present: the 'spider' and the squid  Look at the engineer directly below the central alien . . .

If it is a mural then that really does speak volumes if the above is the case.  Perhaps suggesting that experiments going wrong were to blame for any outbreak across the Engineer culture - not just LV223.

I'm now thinking LV223 may have been a study center to try and contain/eradicate the outbreak/xeno?

Or maybe it's just a cool image - ether way, I think it gives us some clues and teases . . . Ooooh Sir Ridders, you . . . ;)

Alpharius

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2017 11:44 AM

What a great poster! I'd like to get a large glossy version of this.

If these beings are Engineers and they don't represent humans or generically humanoid forms, then it seems they were overwhelmed by the creatures. There appear to be some bits that remind of the Xenomorph biomechanical design but they don't seem to belong to an actual creature, more like random arms or legs that just blend into the design in a Giger-esque way. The creatures appear to have musculature instead of biomechanical design. Some of the mouths on the heads that appear without a body resemble the Queen.

Resurgence

MemberFacehuggerMar-23-2017 12:11 PM

The "Female Engineer" is nothing me than arms because the split goes up too far, and notice how it is made of stone similar to the corpses outside the temple, as for the queen crest I feel like it is in fact a queen crest but the problem is that would go against Scott's initial vision for the xenomorph, yes ridley Scott has said that he considers aliens canon but I feel like it is not in fact a queen.

Gigeresque piece, I love it. Cool thought provoking concepts can be extracted from this. I really don't think there is a "Queen" in the picture. This is Ridley's gig and he wants to continue "His" story, not Cameron's.

the mural you see in Prometheus has a queen in it and it came from giger himself. I think it's safe to say the queen is in the picture, if in fact it is the mural behind the carnage.

Of course I have seen this before and am sure that top piece could be considered a Queen. My point is why would Ridley take Cameron's ideas when he already had his, shown in the directors cut of Alien. So Ridley is just going to scrap his own original narrative for a narrative that is not his but Cameron's whose came almost a decade later? Aliens does continue on the Alien story arc, but differs greatly in the Alien life cycle.  (Facehugger-Xeno) Again, I don't see it going the "Queen" way but I've been wrong before :)

I'm not sure that's a female engineer - it looks like it may be the knee/leg of the engineer below. Amazing image. I wonder if there will be some kind of flashback in AC this is alluding to?

Long time no speak, everybody.

Anyway, I just popped in to inquire.....that alien looking up to the light is the "Protomorph"?

Sorry to say, but I haven't been keeping on top of everything.  I've heard about the "Neomorph" (sometimes dubbed "Belugamorph"), but I guess "Protomorph" is a new one on me.  At first glance that alien looked like a regular alien.

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2017 9:37 PM

I gotta agree crazydave55811 I have heard all the "protomorph" talk - where did the name originate?  Maybe it's something I haven't seen yet- yeah that was a play on words.  In the movies by themselves I have only heard xenomorph aka regular alien - mentioned in aliens. is this the next / my first blog post??  Maybe i just haven't been keepin up with current events but...(someone finish my line). A wonderful riff on Rodin's "The Gates of Hell".

Given the central figure appears to be a woman wearing a Zeno costume I see the tableau as symbolic.

We talked in the spring of 2016 that Paradise Lost came out of rebellion and a breaking of Covenants and the Zeno strain emerges out of punishment. This builds on Prometheus and gives us that answer unequivocally. This beautiful elegant people a superior species who in their prime look like Michelangelo's David have opened the Gates Of Hell and out of it has emerged Pandemonium.

This is a fantastic and ambiguous poster.  I will make some notes though

*Female Engineer? To me it looks male but we cant rule out a Female as there are 100% Female beings on Paradise.

*Engineers, these beings look smaller than the Xenomorphs but maybe because these are Xenos birthed from Engineers, as opposed to them being a smaller race of similar beings but we cant rule this out.

*Queen Looking Xenos, indeed the Teeth are long like the Queens but i see NO other evidence of a Queen, these just look like a twisted Mural that shows various twisted and warped forms of Xenomorph related Organisms and actually appear more like AVP and Alien R Monsters.

*Queen Carapace... again what i see at the top of the image is a TRILOBITE that is connected to the structure/wall of the back ground of this Poster, and indeed one of its Tentacles is attacking a Engineer in this Poster.

BigDave

MemberDeaconMar-24-2017 2:28 AM

The Poster does have that The Fall of the Rebel Angels, Painting by Frans Floris (1554) look about it

Not to forget many ancient works, had depicted Fallen Angels as being Turned to Stone and others Turned into Serpents and other Monsters.

The Source i had early 2015, did mention in context to Prometheus 2 in relation to Paradise Lost Poem... that the Punishment that some Fallen Angels suffered that turned them into Serpents actually allowed them Freedom from Bondage.

Be interesting to see how this could play out.

BigDave,

Now that I'm looking at it, it does look quite a bit like a trilobite. Hoping this is alluding to the Deacon's appearance in the film. Fingers crossed

Michelle Johnston

MemberChestbursterMar-24-2017 4:49 AM

David 007 raises the point that this maybe a relief depicted within the Engineers Temples.

I think that it is possible that this kind of work will be included but  if the story told on this mural does appear then it is a celebration of their fall. The mural in Prometheus was an homage to the achievements of the Engineers, this is depicting their descent. When I think of the reliefs I have recently studied in Angkor Wat they celebrate the achievements of the sponsor, often in war, as well as a celebration of their cultural. It would be unusual for a fallen protagonist to celebrate their fall.

I also think we should look at these murals emblematically, even if something similar appears in the movie, they are not medical research diagrams which should be studied for intellectual and mechanistic realism. It is art where licence is taken with scale and logic to tell an emotional story. It is the mood of the picture the claustrophobic, anonymous nature of the life cycle elements bringing down, suppressing and dominating in very explicit sexual ways that is the message here.

@BD You mention your source discussing the connection between Milton's poem and the Prometheus Pandemonium phase. My understanding is that the Paradise Lost Phase belongs after John Logan was brought in and when the movie had been repositioned into its A L I E N prequel phase. Up until now you have always said your source lost contact with the development of the film after John Logan was introduced and that the ideas for the Obelisk, the Green Stone and the recurring intervention of the Engineers in mankind's development, the matrix riff was part of the story where David and Doctor Shaw came to a live Engineer world of aggressive ...... and the beast was spent done with.

Nick.nam

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2017 8:50 AM

What if these are the aliens that are birthed from the engineers/native humanlike species,  like the one we've seen in the trailer, the big guy. That's why they look different... and the one we see in the trailer is not the Bill Crudup birthed alien, but a leftover survivor from what happened before. Maybe what we aren't seeing is the form the xeno will finally take when it does come out of a human.

I have a few reasons for wondering this, firstly in this mural all of the aliens attacking this race look like the big guy in the trailer.

Second, I can never figure out when that shower sequence happens, it seems it would have to be early because they have their guard down, and I'd think if everyone was dying and chest bursting already this would be less likely to happen.

Thoughts?

Big Dave?

MemberChestbursterMar-24-2017 9:22 AM

I feel like I'm seeing something in the top central image here and am wondering if I'm just crazy or if others see it too. I have made several images and outlined (quite sloppily) the things that are catching my attention.

FIRST, the part of the image in question.

SECOND, Queens Crest?

THIRD, Trilobite?

FOURTH, a figure of an angel held captive?

AND FINALLY, this "angel" figure....has it's face turned to the right in agony?

Anyone else seeing this?

SenseOfDoubt

MemberOvomorphMar-24-2017 9:28 AM

I'm pretty sure we're seeing all sorts of things...But I really think that's a Hammerpede on the left.

Ati

MemberPraetorianMar-24-2017 5:27 PM

SenseofDoubt --- I think 'your hammerpede' is a right shoulder and a long right arm. I believe it belongs to the right leg (next to the xeno head) and the left leg (next to the engineer's head). The two legs and the two knees look the same. The left leg seems to end in a tentacle but it does not, it is behind the engineer's body. I tried to hihglight the limbs in the image - and 'something' which probably covers the head. The left side of the picture looks like a machine in my opinion. (The xeno close to the 'head' is showing its thin tongue?)

We have found Shaw? I think it is possible. (No joke.)

BigDave

MemberDeaconMar-24-2017 7:08 PM

Very Interesting Observation Michelle

If this Poster is a Mural that we would see in the Movie it can only mean really TWO Things.

1) A Celebration of the Event as you touched upon.

2) Or a Warning of what happens when you Rebel.

If it is 1) this maybe would touch upon why the Source claimed that In Context to Paradise Lost Poem (how it connects to the Franchise) that the Punishment which turned some of the Fallen Angels actually leads to Freedom from Bondage.

which i guess would be something for them to Celebrate.

As far as the Hammerpede SenseOfDoubt

Indeed it does, and there is another thing that does too

The bottom of this thing though does look very much like the Hammerpede Tentacles.

The Beauty of the Mural/Poster is it can get us guessing at things that was never meant to be... but its fun to have a speculation though.

Does seem to show some Infection/Outbreak/Punishment via Xenomorph Related Organisms and the Transformative nature of perhaps the Black Goo.

@Nick.nam

POTENTIAL SPOILERS...... only based on Trailers.

Its possible, we have to consider the Time-frame and if we assume the Xeno in this shot..

It raises a few Questions...

Because another shot we see Latukefu in the Cave/Catacomb where the Eggs are, and he is attacked by a Face Hugger, now earlier in the Movie from the Trailers we witness Oram (Crudup) try to get back to the Drop Ship just as Farris (Seimetz) blows it up and he is accompanied by what i have always assumed to be Latukefu

So if this is correct then he would maybe stick with the Captain for a while, and i would assume would not be too far away in location and time frame from when Oram got Face Hugged, which he may then go down to investigate and then get attacked by the Face Hugger and then run off to the Workshop Room (which David/Walter is confirmed to be in with Oram prior to taking the Captain to where the Eggs are).

This would indeed Rule that Xenomorph out as being from Crudups Character..

The only other option would be, if they Split up.. but then what are the chances of Oram getting Face Hugged, going missing and then Chest Busted and then Latukefu goes looking for him and gets attacked first by Face Hugger and then Orams Fully Grown Xenomorph?

Unless Gestation in this movie for the Xeno is much much faster.

It would make more sense that the Xeno who attacks Latukefu if from a previous event/encounter and that Orams Chest Buster sneaks onto the Ship.

Which brings me to the Shower Scene, indeed this Scene would likely be after the Turmoil on Paradise when they are back aboard the Ship and think everything is ok and Coast is Clear....

If they witnessed a Chest Buster or any of the other things, i find it odd they would bring back a Wounded Person without Quarantine first and if they did this and then noticed a Hole in the Captain (or who ever) Chest they surely would not be going to take a Shower together knowing something has happened not for how long between Chest Buster and Adult Xeno.

So its again Logical that a Chest Buster sneaks aboard unknown to the rest of the Crew.  And i think there would be one Sneaky Culprit behind that.

Turning 90° counter-clockwise, it's less a female breast and more a well-developed male pec'. Besides, we have only evidence of male engineers -- for all we know they're monosexual.

But I for one am perplexed that little facehuggers are a match for engineers -- I mean we know that one at least went a few rounds with a giant squid.

Nonetheless, captivating artwork, which I'd be surprised to see in the actual shooting film.

I see the one that has the claws around his mouth and eventually another one at the right, but are there other Engineers in the poster? Can someone edit it and put red circles around the Engineers so it is easier to notice them?

The poster is well done, I like it.

As far as the queen is concerned I hope that they don’t have that in this movie but that it will appear later as an evolution of some sort.

I'm wondering about that hand gesture of the facehuggered engineer in the lower right half. I've seen this gesture in some oldtime painting before, usually it's shown on Jesus or apostles. I wonder if this is coincidental ... likely not. (?)

I think I see the hammerpede, too, not certain though. Could be the arm or limb of a xeno/protomorph as well, funny angle.

Girl engineer, perhaps...

Looks to me like a depiction of how hell was raised in paradise. Might be that hand gesture means = warning! ( to those who discover the picture or mural, in case it's one )

my five cent.
