At Harvard-MIT Center for Ulracold Atoms, a group of professors and their colleagues (led by Harvard Professor of Physics Mikhail Lukin and MIT Professor of Physics Vladan Vuletic) have turned science fiction into reality. After extensive studies, they found a way to bind photons together to form molecules, a discovery that, Lukin claims, "runs contrary to decades of accepted wisdom about the nature of light. Photons have long been described as massless particles which don't interact with each other -- shine two laser beams at each other, and they simply pass through one another..."

Luken goes on to state:

"When the photon exits the medium, its identity is preserved," Lukin said. "It's the same effect we see with refraction of light in a water glass. The light enters the water, it hands off part of its energy to the medium, and inside it exists as light and matter coupled together, but when it exits, it's still light. The process that takes place is the same it's just a bit more extreme -- the light is slowed considerably, and a lot more energy is given away than during refraction."

Photonic molecules, they found, are different. The team of researchers cooled a cloud of ribidium atoms in a vacuum chamber and then fired single photons into the cloud. Though the photons entered individually, they left the cloud together, as a single molecule.

"We do this for fun, and because we're pushing the frontiers of science," Lukin said. "But it feeds into the bigger picture of what we're doing because photons remain the best possible means to carry quantum information. The handicap, though, has been that photons don't interact with each other."

Lukin believes that this can eventually be used to create three-dimensional structures wholly out of light. Like crystals, or...Lightsabers.

"What it will be useful for, we don't know yet, but it's a new state of matter, so we are hopeful that new applications may emerge as we continue to investigate these photonic molecules' properties," he stated excitedly.

"Photonic molecules" behave more like something you might find in science fiction

Finally Wavevolution is part of the scientific establishment. The repercussions are ground breaking and should become widespread with a passion all over the World. The implications of this announcement reach far beyond the scientific progress and may be the key to the survival for most of Humankind. But first here is the full extent of the discovery: Wavevolution extends the concept of evolution to all forms of energy through a process of gradual changes that transform waves into atoms. All elements have one electric charge, one counterpart and one mass. Mass-less does not exist. Symmetry is everywhere.

Neutral elements are composites of two opposite charges and are not elementary particles. Wavevolution is the energy transformation opposite to Nuclear fission. Wavevolution is also the link that was missing to reveal the Creation and One Creator different than the one invented in the Bible. The origin of the Universe is revealed even by the spark appearing from the friction of two cutting blades while they are being sharpened. Try to videotape the spark appearing from those two blades, then watch again the same film while is being rewound and in slow motion. You will see the light from the spark entering the blades and becoming part of them. In fact, the photons of light are the "building blocks" of the metal blades. This simple example should also be a clear indication to explain how the whole mass had been formed in the Universe. Since the Big Bang, waves continue to solidify into hydrogen atoms and transform their energy in different forms of mass.

All Human beings equally, made up of atoms, are the ultimate product of a slow process started with transformed waves. In Wavevolution all forms of energy constantly transform. The same quantum of energy originally carried by any wave becomes gradually fragmented and dispersed by the encountered interferences. For example, quanta of gamma rays over time will lower their potential to become X rays and X rays will gradually become ultraviolet rays diminishing their original frequencies. The initial quantum of energy is transformed into different other forms of energy through spontaneous symmetry breaking. Once they have reached one critical level of energy, lost heat as they travel and having therefore reduced their frequencies, waves collapse, also forming two subatomic particles with opposite charges, as if they were the split ends of one broken hair.

Wavevolution shows how the behavior in waves and atoms is identical and how this single movement common to all energy is comparable to One Divine Will that creates the whole Universe. This constant movement, Quantum mechanics, is here intended as the natural Law of Attraction between two opposite and complementary electric charges. The discovery of the existence of One Universal Law that had one beginning about 14 billion years ago and that was not caused by Humankind confirms as a consequence the existence of One Creator .

Awesome article Freeze. I like that one of the scientists names is Lukin. :)

@Sawa, you forgot these awesome and tasty Light Sabers;

also, Jake Lloyd is kinda overreacting no?

If anything I think he was too young, & not ready to become a Jedi. I believe the same-thing has been revealed concerning Carrie, & to a lesser degree with Mark. Many of the Original Trilogy cast/crew members have had similar gripes either about their experience, or about George himself (no shortage of those). Jake's comments aren't really surprising (however unfortunate), but that's the way his cookie crumbled.

Anyway, he likely has many minor opportunities ahead to benefit from his role. But still, hard see his future, LOL.

Thanks Svanya.

I cant wait, I remember when i was little I thought of a way to make one...

And now... I still dont have one...

WOO HOO there'll be a run on these for sure! Could production keep up with demand?

Sorry x_paden_x, you may have to wait a while longer for yours! :-D
